Davy's Delights

Davy’s Not-So-Delightful Visitor

We have enjoyed the tulips, daffodils, and various other flowers blooming outside our home. Image

Unfortunately, so has a friendly neighborhood rabbit. In fact, he has made quite a nuisance of himself (see nibbled flowers below).

Each time I go to chase him away again, I think of Elmer Fudd and “that wascally wabbit.” Elmer was always hunting Bugs Bunny, who was always making a nuisance of himself. Here’s an example:

Do you have any tips for keeping bunnies out of flower beds?

Davy’s Delights: Beethoven

I grew up listening to classical music [thanks, Dad and Mom] and eventually learned to play it on the piano. Beethoven has always been my favorite, but I have not listened to much lately. Today, I came across this video and was amazed once again at the incredible sounds that just fill me with emotion.

For those of you without a love for classical music, I dare you to listen/watch the first three minutes of the video below and not be impressed. For those of you with a love for classical music, enjoy!

What do you think?

Davy’s Delights: Yorokobi and Curly

I think I have become a plant lady. Don’t worry, they are not taking over our home…but I am excited about them. During college, I went to a bonsai tree exhibit at the Como Park Conservatory and was amazed. Bonsai trees are basically tiny versions of large trees that are grown artistically. For my birthday, Caleb blessed me with my first bonsai tree: “Yorokobi,” meaning “joy” in Japanese. Yes, he has a name. Despite loving plants, I am quite good at killing them. We thought maybe giving him a name would remind me not to ignore him. It worked. We call him Kobi for short (why yes, we are somewhat nerdy). Here he is:

"Yorokobi" - "joy" in Japanese, since he is probably a Japanese Juniper tree. He is affectionately referred to as "Kobi" or "Kobes" in our home.

Caleb spoiled me tonight with yet another awesome tree-like plant. I named him “Curly” for obvious reasons:

In lieu of bouquets of dying flowers, give me a plant that will decorate the living room, clean the air, and keep me company (??) any day. :)
